Council tax - student girlfriend moving in.

Hi, Im currently paying my council tax with a 25% single persons discount. My girlfriend has moved in which obviuously i have to let the council know. The thing is she is a full time student, i am understanding that she wouldnt be eligible to have to pay council tax. what effect would this have on my payments? I was told…

It depends - where I went to uni they passed on the details of students to the council so they could automatically check and know you were entitled to the exemption(unless you ticked some sort of data protection thing so they couldn't)

I wish they would in the authority I work in as it would save hours of chasing.

I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
