  • Opening a new bank account, even a basic account is the highest priority. That at least draws a line under the overdraft and bank charges for the moment. Switch the mortgage to the new account (definite) and all direct debits (if you can afford them).

I'd switch suppliers on your utilities (gas and electric) as well as that draws a line under any outstanding balances.

Both of these only give you breathing space but it will help.

Hi, I don't know a lot about these things but when my daughter didn't have enough contributions for JSA she got income support. It may be worth finding out what benefits you are entitled to.
  • The problem with benefits is that she is claiming as a couple and they want to know her partner's income. If she had claimed as a single person then she would have received income based JSA.
  • we have to think it over.

as far as i know my partner swapped the mortgage payments over to interest only. we were paying a £600 per month mortgage and couldnt afford it, so he went interest only and we are now paying £300 per month.

my partner called to try to get working tax credits, he was told that he doesnt qualify.

    Hiya

I echo the advice given about posting up an SOA and opening up a new basic account with a bank that you have not had any previous dealings with.

Something struck me about your posts though. In your first post you stated that you 'think' your partner brings in £12,000 and then the comments above that I have quoted. If his earnings are the amount stated then you should be entitled to WTC? I don't want to 'put the cat among the pigeons' but are you certain of your partner's income?
