Can't cope
Options
My Gas pre payment meter is in today. Says tariff cost 4: 8.34
tariff cost 5: 3.0409
no idea what this means.
My electricity says 24.37 rate 1
10.90 rate 2
This is both British Gas. Phoned them god knows how many times. Treat me like an idiot.
Just signed up for click energy, after having to mind addresses!! Why the want last 3 years, god knows. Then it mentions a daily charge for electricity. I ot my depth here, seriously. BG don't seem bothered. I don't want to be made a fool of.
anybody advice, please?
Thanks

Hi, I am going to move this thread to the relevant board so you get a better response, good luck!0 -

Sorry, it sounds like you've been badly treated - if you want to complain but don't want to phone you can do it at their website. I work there, so may be able to help with your questions.
Your meters have two prices - one for the first x kWH, and the lower one for the rest. This is instead of having a standing charge.
Not sure why, but it sounds like the click tariff has a standing charge, but am fairly sure this will be for electricity only.
As click is cheaper, you'll still be better off on this tariff (usually there will be little difference between having a standing charge and two tier pricing).
Get an idea of how much you use, and then make a comparison online, switching if you find a better deal.
If someone comes to your door, tell them you pay as you go, and have found the deal you are happy with. Send them packing.
If you can afford to, start putting a little extrra onto the meters now so that when it gets colder you have a bit of a buffer.
I hope this helps. Let me know if there's anything else I can do.0 -
Thanks.
do you think these tariffs are good?

I seem to be going through gas like mad. does the gas meter burn it faster as its using emergency credit? Got this when they put the meter in. £10.00 emergency
thanks0 -

If you are usign a lot of gas, you might want to look at things like insulation (supplier/council may be able to help), or energy efficiency (e.g. turn down heating by one degree, don't heat unused rooms etc)
There is no difference in the cost of gas (or electricity) when using emergency credit and 'normal' credit, despite the rumours to the contrary.0 -
It was my support worker that said it uses more whilst either in debt or in emergency. Mind boggles.
I can't get that essentials tariff. As they take my DLA Income Support, Housing benefit, council tax benefit and my parterns carers allowance into account. housing benefit and council tax benefit are seen as a income. Even though i dont see the money.0 -

What is the threshold for household income to go on Essentials?0 -
This is what I am on essential tariff (not for everyone) its with British Gas
Gas tariff Tier 1 (up to 1143 kWh) 4.192p per kWh
Gas tariff Tier 2 (above 1143 kWh) 2.314p per kWh
Electric tariff Tier 1(up to 225 kWh) 16.120p kWh
Electric tariff Tier 2(above 225 kWh) 10.329p kWh
The gas prices are excellent, but the electricty prices seem expensive?
I understood all current BG tariffs had 670kWh/125kWh as the Tier1 allocation.
Is Essentials an exception? or just you are on an old tariff?0 -
Essentials is still based on the old structure as it was introduced before the change - even though it's prices have changed since.
Bryando - tell your support worker that this isn't the case. People shouldn't be worried about using Emergency Credit if they need to. You will need to pay it back afterwards though, so be prepared for theat.0
