I am interested in doing blogs, but heard that there are some sites that pay if you upload blogs, then every time someone reads them you get a couple of pennies. I've had a look through the forum but can't see any threads on it.
Does anyone know of any such sites, or are they an urban myth?
Thanks

Are you thinking of eg Squidoo or Hubpages for example? I use hubpages, I earn a couple of pounds from it most days. I tend to put my energies into my own sites though.
The trick, as always, is to write pages that target a specific question that concerns something that has value. Some of the stuff in my affiliate marketing thread will be useful to you.0 -
What kind of thing would you write about? How often would you write? Why would people want to read your articles?
These are things that you have to think about before venturing into this kind of thing - to be successful it takes a lot of time, effort, dedication, creativity and normally a passion for a particular subject.0 -

As vicshippers says, choosing a subject in which you have a genuine interest is a very important aspect of making your blog a success. Otherwise it can be difficult to keep coming up with fresh new things to write about, whilst still staying within your chosen theme/niche.
As far as making money is concerned, one of the simplest ways is to use Google AdSense on your blog. The ads that Google places are contextual (ie they relate to the subject matter of your blog post) and therefore tend to get a reasonably good click through ratio (which means money for you!)
Best of luck!0
