Probably being paranoid - phone calls query

I am well used to getting calls from my creditors asking me for additional payments, they don't give up do they! I have learnt to recognise what numbers they are and don't usually answer as I don't ever have anything to give them as I am on a DMP with CCCS and they are getting something!

This morning twice my mobile has been ringing and all there is on the display is 'Call'. Does anyone know if this is an international number...or someone running a scan whereby I pick up the phone and get charged £10 a minute for answering? Or just a creditor in disguise!

I am being a chicken and haven't answered the calls cos I'm scared about what it could be...sad hey?

Don't blame you for not answering the calls, I have got the week off work and have not answered the phone once as it is bound to be from one of H2B's creditors and they have got really funny with me in the past

I'm not sure what type of call it is and maybe someone will be able to let you know.

I do think your right not to answer though, if it is important then they will leave a message and you can call them back.

I never answer to with held numbers.

Dont be scared to answer your phone, take the power back and be strong.

If it is a creditor explain to them that you have nothing else left to offer they are getting payments and your situation has not changed.

As for the "Call" yes this could be an international call as I receive this when getting calls from relatives but it could also be a witheld number.

Also speak to BT and tell them that you would like all 0845 etc numbers barred from calling you.

Dont hide away...be direct in teling them you have nothing more to give finnacially and they are already getting what you can afford.

I just always get upset when I answer them because they can be so harsh and use all the frightening terms, I know they are just scare tactics to get me to pay up but they still scare me none the less!

I don't answer to Witheld numbers either. I need to get some assertiveness training I think! Thanks for that advice I might give BT a call.

Remind them it's not your debt and they have no right to harass you. Tell them you are recording the call.

The best thing to say to persistant creditors is this 'Look, I haven't got ANY money. You can persist all you like but unfortunately it will not make money appear in my pocket. What I do have I am repaying you. These calls will not help. I do not wish to be in debt and as soon as my circumstances improve my repayments will reflect this, but your persistant calling and use of jargon will not change my bank balance. Please limit any further correspondance to paper mail only and I will reflect this by updating yourselves via mail of any changes to my circumstances.'

    That should shut them up!

I must admit I don't like answering the phone and if I don't recognise the number on the display I leave it. Sometimes if the call is made by an automated dialer and there is a delay when the phone is picked up my wife or I just hang up. I try to keep all of my dealings in letter only. I've had too many occassions where they twist what they say and don't confirm anything in writing as they are supposed to.
I must admit I telephoned one company back who had persistantly phoned me and left messages. They had supposedly respected my wishes, agreed to contact me by letter only and erase my telephone number from their files. I gave the pour person on the other end of the phone such a dressing down, I wouldn't be suprised if they went home sick with stress. Everytime they tried to say something I told them to kindly be quiet and not interrupt me whilst I was talking. I then wrote to the complaints dept. and had a go at them for phoning me in the first place and then making me phone them where I lost my cool. This Company (MBNA) were being very difficult at the time, I ended up reporting them to the Financial Ombudsman and they had to pay me compensation. Not heard a peep out of them since.
