Career with highest entry wage?

Options
I'm currently unemployed (with an ever growing amount of idle time on my hands) and after reading through the "list your job and wage" thread, it got me thinking....
If I was ever to go for a career change, it would be interesting to know how small a pay cut I'd have to take.
Are there any careers out there that start you on £20k+?
I left my last job on £29k.
I know it's a long shot but it's good to know.

  • I've no idea, but as most application forms I've done have asked me what my current salary is, that may have some impact on what you'd get paid in the job you're applying for.

  • I would say an electrician or a plumber, but working in-house could start you over 20k. Also the vast majority of graduate roles start at over 20k.

Yep the graduate role I want starts around £25k+
  • Some graduate jobs will start at >£40k, but we're talking about Cambridge law grads etc. I had a friend who went in nearer 50k for their first post. Mind you they worked damn hard in the proceeding 10 years so fair play to them.

What about becoming a police officer????? Start at 22K then on to 36K once your at top pay point unless you go for promotion then its more??
  • Lion Tamer's are well paid, but the career is only short. :-)
  • It also depends on where you live in the country. Like Limana said, police officer or other similar professions pay at least £20k. But it does depend what you want to work in, no point working a job you hate just because it pays that money :)
