You'll get the same with any drive manufacturer.

Maxtor are very much an average, straight down the line drive manufacturer these days. I've got three and not had a single fail. But then again you'll get people with the exact opposite.

Most hard drives have a decent reliability rate. If picking one I'd go on access time, noise and warranty. Seagate or Hitachi would be my choice at the moment. I've actually got the above drive though (in SATA form) and it runs very well.

I have always preferred Maxtor, and have never had any problems (saying that one of them will probably fail tonight, lol). I would say Seagate perhaps is the better drive at the moment, its atleast more quiet, if thats your preference.
  • Another Maxtor supporter here.

    Don't believe everything you hear.

Whole heartedly agree with above. I hear Seagate are good but I have 2*Maxtors (200GB each) in my PC and an external 300GB Maxtor (like space) and have NEVER had a problem with any (touch wood).
I thought I had a great deal 8 months ago when I bought my external Maxtor (300GB) for £125 but at £67 this IS an absolute steal !!!
