When assessing the absent parents payments do they take their debts into consideration when calculating what they have to pay?

I dont recall them doing that with me. (im a NRP).When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0

Not usually; the NRP will be assessed solely on their income, regardless of other outgoings. Child support is classed as a priority debt.
Don't expect any sympathy from the CSA on this one.Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Debt at highest approx £102,000. Debt now (October 2009 - absolutely fork all!!!)

Assuming you are on CSA2 - if the debts have been accrued jointly then the NRP can ask for a variation taking them into account, there is no guarantee that the CSA will actually take them into account though.
In general though no, CSA2 is based on a percentage of take home pay and number of nights the child(ren) spend at the NRP.

Perhaps you could clarify,
are you refering to debts to the CSA or general debts ie, credit cards, loans etc? When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0 -
Thankies it's not me it's my ex. He has been in employment since August without informing the CSA. He was paying through a DEO but lost his job through redundancy and then he claimed JSA. He says that he can prove to the CSA that he has a lot of debt he incured whilst on JSA and that he wouldn't need to pay it.0

General debts like going to Graceland to see his beloved Elvis's grave and going to watch football etc etc0 -

Im certain they dont take these into account.
I cant remember ever being asked about my debts at all. When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0 -

To be honest I'd just carry on through the CSA and ignore him. If he wants to bring it up, I would just advise him to keep saving for any arrears he is accruing and leave it at that.

These debts will definitely not be changed by any departure (CS1) or variation (CS2) & will therefore, be disregarded by the CSA.General debts like going to Graceland to see his beloved Elvis's grave and going to watch football etc etcDonedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000.
