Cheap way to clean Laminate

Options
:)Hi there

We have an oak topped laminate (v groove type) in the whole of our downstairs, we also have two clumsie kids and a spaniel that likes mud :D  At the moment, I brush then hoover, then use the Pledge floor wipes to clean and polish it, however I find the wipes dry out after doing just one of the rooms, so I'm going through quite a lot of them about 3-4 times a week :o  I want to know is there a cheaper but also safe way of cleaning the floor, ( don't want to damage it)

Thanks

  • Hi

We also have a laminate floor complete with kids & pets so I know what you mean!
I use a laminate wood floor cleaner by Wizz. You just dilute it with warm water and lightly mop, no need to rinse off. It smells nice too. I buy it from Home Bargains/Half price or less for around a pound. I've also seen it for sale in Tradex if you have one near you.

If you can't find that, Wickes do an own brand laminate floor cleaner which dilutes and lasts for ages. We use one of those squeegy style mop things to apply it.

We used to use Astonish laminate cleaner when Instore shop sold it, but not been stocked in my local store for a while   :(

Recently bought one of these mops:

    mrs mop

(didn't buy it from here though, just for reference, bit expensive here!)

and after a recommendation use ordinary diluted FLASH (orange)

No streaks on our laminate or hardword flooring and the controlled squiring of the mop doesn't soak your laminate etc :-*

There was a thread about this a while ago, but I recommended a microfibre mop I bought from http://www.lakelandlimited.co.uk/. It's not cheap, but you only need to use water with it, so good for the environment etc. I put the pad in the washing machine occasionally.

I use a flash power mop, great on wood or laminate floors and tiles... I have had mine for about 6 months and not found it too expensive to "run" if you look out for the pads on offer etc. The pads are quite thick compared to the things you are using now so last longer. :)

  • I use the vileda microfibre mop. I've two covers - one I use dry just to pick up the dog hair and fluff bunnies and the other I use with a water spray to clean. When they are dirty they go in the washing machine
