If there is a ramada jarvis in cardiff they are doing a summer get away deal, 49.50 per person per night, but you get dinner bed and breakfast, seems quite a good deal to me.

considering how little price difference there is between the ibis and the big sleep, you get a much nicer hotel for your money at the ibis. i thought big sleep was a disappointment - grossly over-rated for what it is

No availability in Big Sleep or Novotel when I need it (Joe Calzaghe is fighting in the Millennium Stadium that weekend).

Nearest Ramada Jarvis is Swansea.

Blue Dragon would be £105 for the two nights (maybe bumped up the prices because of the boxing?)

have you tried the B&Bs on cathedral road or newport road? not quite city center, but just about within walking distance

or there are several city centre based travel inn/lodges
