Ok quick question about a few thinsg relating to little nippers - just because I dont know the answers
and wouldnt want to have one if I cant afford ......
If we had a baby - what support (financially) can we get if we need it?
Between us the annual salaries total - £44k before tax & ins. So about £2800 clear a month...
Also whats the rules on maternity pay? I know you can have 12 months, and that soon they are looking to allow the woman to sign 6 months of that to Paternity leave. What % of your wage do you get? Or is it a set amount?

Firstly, you should've posted this in the benefits and tax credits section

Judging by your combined wage (which goes on gross not net) you'll be able to claim child benefit (which eveyrone is entitled to) and you may be entitled to child tax credits.
With regards to maternity pay, your partner would be entitled to 9 months paid leave and then 3 months unpaid (that goes for everyone) but the amounts you will recieve will vary from employer to employer. For example, my employers maternity pay began at 90% for the first 6 weeks, then slowly decreased to SMP - so inevitably, your partner will end up recieving around £123 per week towards the end of her maternity leave (that's assuming she earns more than this per week to begin with)0 -
Ooops sorry! Its local Government.
So 90% of your wage for 6 weeks and then £123 a week after?
Whats Child benefit work out at & child tax credits?0 -
Child benefit for the first is £20pw. Tax credits on your income would be £545pa.
It may be worth posting in the relationship section to ask about the costs of raising a child?0 -
Good luck with the baby and I hope from the bottom of my heart that you never have to come back here for help with the CSA!0

Can one of the moderators move this into the correct section? When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0
