Wedding party songs?

My venue has just emailed me asking if I have any ideas of songs I'd like the DJ to play and all ideas have gone clean out of my head.
We both like mainstream, chart, cheese, bit of rock, anything that kind of says 'girls night out'
For example a bit of Pink, Lady GaGa, Sugababes etc. I fully intend to be on the dancefloor for the full three hours that the DJ is on.
But I also want songs that the slightly older generation will enjoy, I know my mum loves the Beatles but don't know what songs of theirs would work for dancing to. Also I'd like some slower songs for a bit of smoochy dancing at the end of the night. We're not having a 'first dance' because my partnerdoesn't want one so I do want a couple of real crowd pleasing songs to start the set off with as I would hate the DJ playing to an empty floor, I know my friends will dance, I just need to pick the right song to get them up there at the start.
Any suggestions.....

I'm busy compiling a wedding playlist aswell
Google "wedding playlist" and you should get lots of results of lists that others have compiled already. What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -

Some friends of mine made their playlist by asking all the guests to nominate a couple of their favorite songs for dancing to, resulting in a packed floor all night.
With no effort.0 -
Chelbel - Thank you. Now that is a whole heap of inspiration.
Although I'm not keen on 'gimmick' songs eg macarena, I do love Kylie Spinning Around, and Brown Eyed Girl, and I have to admit to a soft spot for Footlose to, and Chesney Hawkes.
So far I've also come up with:
Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars and Eva Cassidy - Songbird for slow dances
Lady GaGa - Pokerface
!!!!!cat Dolls - Don't Cha
Katy Perry - I kissed a girl
Sugababes - Girls
Sam Sparro - Black and Gold
Elton John - I'm Still Standing.
Any other suggestions welcomed.0 -
In case anyone wondered, I did not put those exclamation marks in. It would seem this board has a very effective censoring programme. But I assume you all know the song I mean.0

This is what I can think of off the top of my head (apologies if any have been mentioned before):
Earth Wind & Fire - Let's Groove Tonight
The Jackson 5 - Blame It On The Boogie / Shake Your Body Down To The Ground / I Want You Back
Abba - Waterloo
Michael Jackson - Billie Jean / Thriller / Bad / Beat It
Deneice Williams - Let's Hear It For The Boy
Kenny Loggins - Footloose
The Beatles - I Saw Her Standing There / Twist And Shout / I Wanna Hold Your Hand / Help! / Please Please Me / Can't Buy Me Love
The Monkees - I'm A Believer
Wham! - Wake Me Up Before You Go Go / Freedom / I'm Your Man
Stevie Wonder - Superstition
Grease Megamix
Whigfield - Saturday Night
Black Lace - Do The Conga
Rednex - Cotton Eye Joe
Candi Stanton - You Got The Love
Motown compilations are normally a good choice as well.
And for more modern stuff:
Katy Perry - Hot N Cold
Mika - We Are Golden
Black Eyed Peas - I Got A Feeling / Boom Boom Pow
Michael Buble - Save The Last Dance For Me
Re: smoochy songs, I'd go for Michael Buble's version of The Way You Look Tonight, especially if you want something a bit different. Or a song called It Is You I Have Loved (off the Shrek soundtrack), can't remember who it's by though.
The slowies that used to always get played at weddings at the hotel where I used to work were Amazed by Lonestar, You're Still The One by Shania Twain and Rule The World by Take That.
Oh, and it's not a proper wedding if it doesn't end with everyone in a circle high kicking along to New York New York!"A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0
