Hi,
I have just ordered something on Amazon and got a free trial of the (new) Prime Account. You pay roughly £47 and get all orders delivered by next day, without extra costs. All garantueed deleiveries for next day are £4.40 fix price.
Since I started my trial today, I got my order 1st class without extra costs.
You can cancel the automatic upgrade before the trial period ends (1 months) and I found the wee button already... Most probably I wont upgrade.
Eitehr way its a good thing:
You get a free delivery or you pay an anual fee of £47. If you order a lot via Amazon, its a very decent offer, I think.
I hope its not an old option, cos I dont regulary order there

Please note the T&C of this 'free offer' I have highlighted them at the bottom. If you do not cancel in time you will be charged. If you forget and then forget for the next year your card (which they hold details of 'ease of ordering' will be charged again. I choose not to have this option as I do not need the items that badly and in all fairness Amazon are pretty quick on deliveries. I started this trial a week or so ago have ordered lots of items however it has become a pain for me.
When i previously ordered items with normal delivery the items came via royal mail and just pushed through my letterbox - not signing for etc.
However what a nuisance this service has been - every item has either been sent by special delivery whereby i am at work all day and cannot sign for so i have to make trips to the sorting office.
Other heavy books have come via city link a local courier service again they have to be signed for and you can only have a re arranged delivery for mon - fri no good if you are working and cannot have it delivered to an alternative address, plus i was told they will only keep 1 week.
so i had to make a journey to my local depot to collect these items - 15 miles each way to collect them cost me more on petrol than the postage would have costs.
i went into this thinking yes that would be good if i could receive item next day however no good if they send it whereby it has to be signed for. needless to say i have not upgraded to continue with this service.2010 - Goals

I object to this method of selling. I ignored the 'free' offer email (among several hundreds of others which I don't open) only to discover that I was billed whilst on holiday for £47.97. Isn't it time that trading standards put a stop to tactics that require the recipient to cancel a subscription rather than actively sign up for it. This is the second time I have been stung by such methods in over a year.0

In the email you receive when signing up it clearly says:-
If you want to continue after your Free Trial, do nothing. Your membership will automatically continue and we will charge the payment method you used when you signed up £47.97 for the next year and after that. If you prefer, you can choose "do not auto upgrade" before the initial charge, or "do not auto renew" before any renewal charge in Your Account and your payment method won't be charged for the next year. You can always request a refund of the most recent charge if your benefits have not been used in the new term. If we are unable to charge your preferred payment method, we will charge another payment method we have on file for you
They really could not make that any clearer and it is very very easy and simple to cancel it. There is just one button to click which turns off auto renew and you will not be charged a single penny..

Even if you forget to click the button they will refund you. They've gone well beyond what they are legally obliged to do0 -

Did you ignore the free prime trial offer, or sign up for it? If the former then how did they charge you for a service you didn't agree to? (I've used the trial and I had to agree to it, it didn't happen automatically.) If the latter, then you really should have checked the T&Cs and cancelled before the billing period commenced.
I was interested in the benefits of 'Prime', but I don't use Amazon enough over the year for it to be worth while and their free delivery is usually enough.0 -

You ignored it and didn't read the terms and conditions which CLEARLY state they will bill you and this is somehow Amazon's fault ? Isn't it time that people took responsibility for their own actions ?0 -
Ssssh, we can't have people doing that. Amazon should give a free trial and only charge people if they ring up Amazon and demand to be charged.

OK I am stupid as well, I recently ordered a couple of bits from Amazon and admittedly by my own hand I joined the month trial for this Prime thing, and yeah I didnt read the small print, so didnt get round to cancelling.(did not get email tho) Got my credit card bill this morning and oh dear, whats that £47.97 charge for....found this forum to see what I could do and in the meantime I actually phoned the amazon number from my credit card, told the guy what I was phoning about and he was great, he said it was quite a usual thing and checked as I had not used the Prime facilities they were quite happy to refund my money, could not ask for better service than that to be honest. Just had emails to say the money would go back on my account in the next 2/3 days, and sorry for the inconveniance..cant ask more than that surely! So this is really just to re-assure folks that not all www/net companies are bad. A big thanks to Amazon!!!0
