I need help, I have an exsiting student loan which i havent paid any money towards since i left my role in 2006 to go travelling, since returning in 2007 i have been working and earning £15k+ but no money has been collected. This has been discussed with my employer, he pays wages through an accountants. They have my correct details e.g N.I number and I am not sure what else we can do to make them collect?? Surely as an employer you dont have to ask every person if they have a student loan before they join your business??
I am worried that i may be fined or the loan ammount increased because of this???

i too am in that same situation - i left uni 2003 and started earning over the £15k limit a few years later - i have not made any repayments and have never been contacted by the company except for occational statements. i though payments would be automatic but should i have initiated the payments myself?
i'm looking to get a mortgage soon and although i know it doesn't count towards my credit rate i'm worried about making mortgage repayments and then them deciding to start taking the money out.0 -
I left uni in 2003 and despite earning above the threshold since then and changing jobs a few times they never took a penny off me until two months ago when i received a letter to say that they have now been informed that I started work. My sister got the same letter at the same time and she left uni three years after me. I would suggest that they are poorly run and I would not bother chasing it unless you want to start making payments.0
