There are two version of the MCE Keyboard the OEM and Retail one. The Retail box ones are more expensive as they come with a fancy box where as the OEM just comes in a brown box. I believe there are no differences other than packaging. You get batteries with the OEM one as well. This explains the vast price difference of this item.

Does it have to be a certain type of IR receiver?
As i have one plugged into my Leadtek TV card for the remote that came with that, so I am wandering if this IR keyboard would work though that or if it needs a different type of IR receiver?

Yes it has to be the Microsoft IR Reciever that comes with the MCE Remote I believe.

One thing to remember if anyone buys the MCE Keyboard the mouse pointer that's built-in is not very good but the keyboard is very nice to use.
