Help with a zip problem

Can nylon spiral teeth zips be shortened from the top ?
I know how to shorten them at the bottom, but can the same method be used at the top?
I have a new skirt with a very wide waistband and the zip goes all the way to the top of it. It's very uncomfy so I'd like to make the waistband narrower which would mean shortening the zip from the top.
Still with me ?
Has anyone ever done this? Any tips, handy hints, advice welcome. And no, I can't make my waist slimmer to solve the problem

Yes, course you can. Cut it about 2cm above where you want it to finish, fold the excess over and under at a slight angle to the upper layer, stitch in place (hide inside seam if possible) and for an extra security whipstitch a small stop at the top of each line of teeth.Val.0
