What do you use them for? I thought it was OK to use them in cleaning my sink, But a friend was in as I was doing that and she said they scratch anything like that, and she will not have them in house!!!!!
So what do you use them for?

OH hates them but I think they are great for oven trays in particular.0

I always have a supply in the cupboard for getting stubborn stuck-on food off my stainless steel pans. My glass oven door is removeable for cleaning and brillo pads are great for getting the baked on grime off this too.0

Also brilliant on oven racks as i've just discovered. I let mine go a bit and had trouble cleaning them until i remembered i had some under the sink which i bought a few years ago and had never used. Brought them up a treat with little effort.0

I use them for cleaning outside of my big Le Creuset casserole dishes.0

we used to use them at guide camp to clean the billy cans at the end of the week.
I think the thing is just to not use them on anything non-stick0 -
We use them for oven racks, oven door glass, hob surface and removable gas jet parts, oven trays made of vitreous enamel and stainless steel pans if they have been burnt!0

Electric hob (it's glass type stuff), oven trays that are stainless steel, the sink, Pyrex dishes, the oven door....
I use them quite a bit for ingrained muck. Oh, and a tip I picked up from someone else on here is to cut them in two and just use half at a time.0 -
I bought some the other week from the pound shop, to clean our alloy wheels, and they just fell apart.
Morale of the story - Do not use Brillo pads to clean alloy wheels.
or possibly:
Do not use cheap copies of Brillo pads bought in pound shop to clean alloy wheels.0 -
Thanks for your replies.
But that is what I was cleaning the sink. And I was told it will damage the sink!!! taking the shine off
Also I have a gas hob can I use that to clean it rather than hob cleaner?0 -

Is your sink stainless steel? If so yes, you'll get damage. Brillo pads cause tiny scratches all over stainless steel which you might not notice at first but eventually will take the shine off.
Is your gas hob stainless steel? Same thing will happen.
Ceramic is usually tough enough to see off a clean with a Brillo but I still wouldn't scrub really hard in one place for fear of creating a "matt" spot.0
