1977 seems another option though - there's also an article in the Independent celebrating 30 years of Antiques Roadshow from 2007 (HERE)

eta: however, in that article it states "Antiques Roadshow's first series, aired in 1979"

Did a quick search on the web and found:-

There’s a BBC page here (BBC Page) that gives 1979 for the first broadcast.

There’s a page on Wikipedia here (Wiki Page) that also gives 1979 for the first broadcast.

The Wiki page also states that a DVD featuring highlights from 30 years of the series is being released on 5 October 2009 – which would again give a 1979 start date.

Just had a quick look on Amazon for the DVD mentioned in the Wiki article. Link to DVD is here (Amazon link), and this states “Since it first aired on the 18th of February 1979”.

I agree it’s all confusing, but I’m going with 1979
