I want to start getting some bits together for Xmas hamper for 18yo neice who has just started at Uni.
A mix of useful and silly gifts, and maybe some tongue in cheeks one too, since she broke the micrwave on her first day, not knowing she couldn't heat a tin of spaghetti in it - yes in the tin-yes really!.

I'd include things like a student cookbook, a phone top-up card (if she's on Pay as you go), some booze, maybe a tin of value beans or a packet of value noodles as a joke, a calendar or pocket planner, maybe some kitchen things like utensils, a nice photo frame or fleecy blanket for her bedroom, a £1 shopping trolley token, student survival guide, shot glasses, notepads and nice pens for uni work, earplugs for when the flat downstairs are having a party at 6am, glowsticks, city guide for the place she's gone to (if it's away from home), a tin of spaghetti with instructions stuck on the side?!

How about getting one of those money tins you have to open with a tin opener and putting a few pounds/pennies in.
If you are a crafty bod, you could re-cover it and put something like ONLY OPEN IN AN EMERGENCY
on a serious/safety side, .....how about some of those little stoppers you put in a drink bottle top to stop it being spiked.
A mug with her name on ..... so it doesn't get taken by mistake
A little novely torch penlight keyring.0 -

On a less serious note, I used to work behind the bar at our student's union and we have little pots of these on the bar. One really drunk guy came up the me with one floating on the top of his pint and said 'I don't see how these will stop your drink from being spiked, they're rubbish!' :rotfl: Don't know if he was being serious or not!

How about doing mini first aid kit/box with useful cold and flu stuff that teenagers think magically appear when you are ill... not so much fun when you feel rough and have to drag self to chemist!0

Plasters are always good as well. You never know when you'll run out.

Not sure if it's what the op of the idea had in mind but it's the sort of thing included in one.
You can get book about survival as a student on amazon as well.0 -
They had them all over our uni, it's just a magazine thing with tips for staying healthy, what to do if you get ill, tips for doing your food shopping, how to be safe when you're out drinking, local taxi numbers etc in. I don't know where you'd find one of these actually, although you could print some similar things out and make a little notebook of helpful numbers or facts?
