Very true, but its not possible, So I may make do with whats local, can't drive either

I am sorry to hear that. However, it is unfair to thus make sweeping statements about jobs.
    Always overestimating...
  • B & M seem to be expanding and needing staff ( think there might be one opening in Cookstown soon ), Argos always need staff for xmas, have you tried M&S, Tesco, Boots etc - I live quite close to Cookstown so if I see anything I'll let you know
    Hope you find something soon

You have to do your research. You have to know where your talents lie and you need to identify which of them are valuable. Then you have to work on it. The problem with graduates and 'professionally qualified people' is that they are often pidgeon holed or do so to themselves. Having a degree in history, for instance, probably puts you into the bracket of 'McDegree' for most employers - you have demonstrated that you can work but chances are you have no skill particularly useful to them and thus you don't stand out. Maybe you have a 3rd class hons in media studies - frankly, you might have a degree but it means almost nothing. You cannot expect to start in a good job, you have to accept that you probably will be looking at non-grad jobs. Many grads can't accept this and end up with nothing. Then the professionals - it is all well and good to be a conveyancing solicitor when there is a boom, but this is a recession and people aren't buying houses. You have to broaden your appeal as opposed to just plugging away hoping that life will get better.

It is almost impossible for me to suggest what someone on here should do to improve their chances - I just don't have adequate background on you. I could do it but, with a bit of work, you can probably make that assessment better.

Thanks for not ruffling my hair when you patted me on the head.
  • I was up at Tesco at Knocknagoney this evening and when I left there was a huge queue of people stretching out the door. It appears that they were queuing to get job application forms.

Judging by the queue anyone would think they were giving away free money!

Either they're a great employer or things are really tough at the minute.

  • I think at least at 500 people must have collected application forms this evening. I just wonder what chance my son has?

The job situation is soul destroying. rejection after rejection ...

    Things are really tough!

I wonder if these are Christmas vacancies these people are interested in, or if there are any long term permanent vacancies.

    Where is Knocknagoney anyway??

    What about Ironing/Babysitting?Ebaying ?

I am kicking off with a car bootie to get a few extra pounds in, but am thinking of ebaying too. Maybe something wedding related as people seem to want to set fire to their [STRIKE]credit cards[/STRIKE] money when getting wed. What though....that is the question...
  • Tescos in Carrickfergus also had a massive queue for application forms lat night.
Apparently there are 20 christmas jobs going, 10 on nightshift and 10 on checkout. Forms have to be in by Saturday 17th October
