Any recommendations for bath products that don't cause thrush?

Hello,

It's my best friend's birthday next month and I'd really like to get her some bath stuff as she never has baths due to a very sensitive disposition to getting thrush - she can't even use coloured loo paper!

I realise it's subjective but does anyone have any recommendations, please?

Thanks
MWA

What about an oil burner and some lavender oil. I like to use one when I bath as I don't like bathing in chemicals but like to make bath time a bit special and relaxing.

Im not meaning to be rude here but I have to ask..

Surely if she has chosen not to have baths because of her sensitivity, surely you are being insensitive in buying her bath products?

I can see your point but she wishes she could have baths, she's just wary of buying products herself. I thought it would be nice if I could get her something that is recommended by other people in the same situation.

Well she can have baths, just use water, There is no need to use soap around the genital area. I too can not use anything in the bath because Im sensitive. I sit, have my soak, then wash myself with soap, rinse and step out.

Bathing is recommended as a soother for thrush infections. Its the perfumes in products that do the damage

I would second the plain water suggestion, with an oil burner or scented candles to make it feel relaxing. I also use natural baby bubble bath (pureadore range) in my bath and it's fine. It has no parabens or artificial scents or colours etc and smells of lavendar as it contains lavendar essential oil, which is anti-bacterial so helpful in a bath, and I have never had a problem with small amounts of essential oil, as long as it is a pure oil. Like you say it is subjective though. Hope you find something for her!
  • To be honest it's trial and error. I find I'm ok with Lush bubble bars. However, that could quite easily change.

I would certainly steer clear of cheap (value) bath products and even baby products.

You could look at bath bombs, they are essentially bicarb with a little citric acid for the fizz, overall they make the bathwater alkaline. Baking powder in bathwater is an old treatment for thrush.

    You could try these ones
    thehouseofeleni.com/product_info.php?products_id=72
or if you look on ebay there are a few sellers that make bath bombs and could probably make you something without even the essential oil in, and with a higher bicarb to citric acid ratio.

(Sorry about it not being a proper link, I'm not allowed to do a link because I am too new apparently! So you will need to add www)

Just reading about the bath bombs, there was a thread somewhere on MSE about making your own bombs and bath salts. You could get a nice jar maybe a kilner and make a layered bath salt present, you could find some lavender flowers and dry them as one layer, then salts and alternate. No nasty chemicals so should be OK. You could add a tag tied round the neck with a ribbon showing the ingredients or a sweet message, even a poem....
  • Plain water in your "areas" then wash around all but your "areas" with whatever you like using a sponge :)

bath bombs, especially Lush ones are designed for people that get thrush and thats why Lush invented them. They also do some lovely bath melts. Have a look on the website at Ceridwens Cauldron (bath melt) and Mr Butterball (bath bomb)
