Is my roast chicken safe to eat?? Urgent question

I have been 'slow roasting' a chicken. A very expensive chicken. I realised, after it had been in the oven for about an hour and a half, that the absorbent paper under it was ... STILL under it. I took it out, but OH is now really worried and about to throw out the chicken. Is it ok to eat??

    Yes, it will be fine to eat. You can eat the paper too if you want.

    Found a giblet bag inside many a chicken and turkey after roasting, never done any harm.

    As long as the paper has come off and hasn't melted any plastic onto the chicken I'd say yes. The heat should have killed off any bugs.

    To be honest, even if it was welded on I'd probably just cut it away and use the rest. But that's me. We're far too "food safety" minded these days...

    It'll be fine - what exactly are you worried about that you think it won't be OK to eat?

    Just thinly slice that section off if you are that worried about it. I think it will be fine.

    No it's not, its a meat nappy!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    (although I am not sure which sounds worse :p)
  • I agree.
    If it's only paper then I can't see any problems.
    It's been slow cooked as well, so it shouldn't even taste of anything as long as you can get the paper off.

    Thanks. So, I managed to persuade him it was ok to eat a chicken that had been sitting on its ST (love the image). It was yummy. It was going well. Unfortunately, though, my daughter had decided we needed candlelight for this meal. About 10 minutes in, one of the glass candle holders exploded, sending shards of hot glass over OH's meal. He picked it up, burned himself, and spent the next ten minutes under a tap.

    Not my best effort.

    Haha! Let's get this straight, you firstly cooked a chicken wearing a sanitary towel, then you threw in pieces of glass for good measure!:rotfl: Are you cooking Christmas dinner by any chance? Sounds like fun :p
