£122 p/m on mobiles is huge!!!!!!!!!!
I would suggest that you ask the teenagers to start paying board (nearly everyone of my friends and i did it!) you could start with £10 per week per child - put towards the groceries. xxxO/S Debt: PL £[STRIKE]15207.34[/STRIKE] £9884.55; HSBC £4060.99; Tesco£1430.15; M&S £5990.17; Virgin [STRIKE]£5158.69[/STRIKE] £4210.14; Egg £4619.00; O/S = ££30,292.42 AIM - To Be Debt Free 56 months0 -
Hi and a big welcome,
Am still fairly new to this myself, but thanks to people on here I'm getting my act in gear.
Have taken advise to do some reclaiming on bank and credit card charges, and to date have been offered £360 financial hardship off Abbey for past 12 months charges, with no affect to full claim of £3100 which will be looked at after trial case is over. Yesterday I was offered the full amount of £108 plus £10.18 off Barclaycard. Although I won't see this money it's nice to know that they're coming off the debt balances.
Check out the main site "Reclaim £1,000s, it could be you can get back some of your hard earned money. Good luck with your debt free journey.:DAugust 2009 - Debt free - August 2013

When are the mobiles due to finish their contracts? Sometimes you can call a few months before the end of the contract and negotiate.
Also, join a cashback website like Quidco/Topcashback and get new contracts with lovely cashback. I got £120 for Mr Fresian's contract and his phone is now £15 per month instead of £35 :j Same goes for insurances. You can also get 1% cashback at Quidco if you do Asda online shopping.0 -
Thank you all for your input.
I am going to crack the whip
(!) with my husband tonight regarding sat tv. Wish me luck!
Am fighting a hard battle with this one - he has just signed up for a new iPhone @£47 pcm - to my absolute disbelief. He just does not understand that he does not have £1474 to spend every month just because it says so on his payslip.
Also, holiday is actually almost paid off for next year so I can cut out the £100 on my SOA - we took up camping this year so can always have a summer under canvas in 2011 if need be!
I am expecting a payrise of £2-3,000 in April 2010 so hopefully I will get a bit of breathing space. In the meantime I will continue to fight the fight!!!
Your support is very much appreciated.
And COME ON YOU RHINOS!!0 -
Is that cancellable?rhino_lady wrote: »Am fighting a hard battle with this one - he has just signed up for a new iPhone @£47 pcm - to my absolute disbelief. He just does not understand that he does not have £1474 to spend every month just because it says so on his payslip.
You could sell it on the basis that O2 have just lost the exclusivity for the iPhone and he would likely get a hella cheaper contract after Christmas...0 -
He won't part with it even if it is.

Am going to focus on the easier items first me thinks. New I should have got a bottle of wine in!!
I want to cancel my contract (£35 at mo) and get a pay as you go but I am also tied in. Will give them a call tomorrow to see if there is any way to leave early.
Thanks again for your suggestions! Will keep you posted!0 -
Hi rhino lady

Firstly, I agree with others here in that the first things you should address are the satellite TV and the mobile contracts, although I realise that you may be under restrictive contracts for the latter. I also agree that the boys should be paying their way by now
However I also think you should seriously consider downgrading one or both of your cars, if you could arrange it loan-wise. The debt with those two is an enormous percentage of your overall total and I would say that a cheaper, smaller car would do the job equally as well.
Having said all that I have to say, with the best will in the world, you really need to get your husband on side in all this otherwise it's pointless. You will break your back clearing your debt only for him to rack it up again. One thing you learn is that it's not just clearing balances, it's also understanding how you got into the situation in the first place by analysing your spending habits - AND CHANGING THEM. Both of you got into this situation, and it shouldn't be just down to you to address things. Sit him down and show him all your numbers and give him a reality check!
Just my 2p's worth!

...and I realise that this is none of our business, but unless you are paying off a holiday that is already booked and non-refundable I would seriously suggest that you forego a holiday next year and put that money towards your debts.

Hi
If the kids are out of full time education they need to be in full time work or living to their income, they need to be paying their own mobiles and gym membership, if they can't afford it they can't do it, you need to help them see the value of money.
Also £74 p/m on presents £888 per year this is crazy.0
