in Cutting tax
Hi everyone..........looking for some advice please.
My accountant whom has worked for me for many years completed my accountants, took payment from me,submitted them to the Tax Office at the end of June.My accountant said the rebate would be just over £2,000.Usually by now its been long paid into my account. However its now been 3 months.Anyway i gave my accountant a quick call and he said that they seem to be taking a long time this year with everyone and its best to just wait because when in the past he has 'chased-up' peoples accounts, the tax office decided to do(or say) security checks.....thus taking longer.
So should i just sit and wait,or go against my accountant and ring the tax office myself?
Anyone have any thoughts please?

hmm, depends how much you trust your accountant? When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0

Yes, it's true, there was an attempt to scam HMRC with fake tax claims earlier this year, so they are doing more in depth checks on a proportion of returns. Nothing to stop you ringing your tax office yourself to check on progress.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

As with any business that is broke it takes longer to get your money, but at least with GBs Britain you should eventually receive your money. I did, just a shame we cannot claim interest :whistle:0

He's always been reliable in the past,do you mean maybe he did'nt actually post my return when he said he did and that he could be the cause of the delay?Yes, it's true, there was an attempt to scam HMRC with fake tax claims earlier this year, so they are doing more in depth checks on a proportion of returns. If i was to do that i can obviously provide my name, address and national insurance number........would that be enough as i cant remember my tax reference number(what's written on the tax return form and sent)?.0 -
Yes, they will ask you security questions which you should be able to answer.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

If your accountant has been reliable in the past then it's unlikely he has done anything different this year. But if you have doubts about him then when you contact HMRC to progress chase your refund ask them what date they received the tax return on. If they say the end of June then you know your accountant has done his usual good job.
BTW just because you have an accountant to help you with your books and preparation of your tax return does not mean you can't deal directly with HMRC yourself.
fengirl is correct in that more stringent checks are being made on refunds before they are released to make sure they aren't dealing with a fraudulent return. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
As you are expecting a refund can I assume that you are paid under CIS? If so the Revenue do seem to be carrying out more checks this year - ensuring that the tax deducted per your Return agrees with your contractor. However it does not delay your repayment if you, or your accountant contact the tax office to enquire about progress. The revenue now have contact centres who will basically plug your details into their computer and tell you what it spits out.
If you have been selected for more security checks you wil be told - there is nothing you can do about it but at least you know the repayment will not be imminent. If you do not want to contact the Revenue yourself ask your accountant.0
