Hope I'm okay to post this/don't know if someone's already posted it elsewhere on the site. The program's described as 'a sideways swipe at consumerism, in which Penny Smith attempts to persuade die-hard spenders there are better and cheaper alternatives' e.g. finding a much cheaper gymn membership. Looks an interesting watch.

Penny Smith has just said that if you sign up to a 12 month contract for the gym................ then you're tied in to that contract for 12 months.

I couldn't believe after all the options were laid out in front of her and that huge wad of money was wafted under her nose, that she still went for the gym. Obviously not a regular on MSE.Books - the original virtual reality.

I've never understood why anybody would pay money to go to a gym. It's not very difficult to find other more 'useful' ways to exercise.Stompa0

And then there's the few grand to buy the labour-saving gadgets so you can spend more time at the gym...0

Me neither, and with all the money spent at the gym you could buy your own equipment and do it within the privacy of your own home
Especially if theres more than one person in the household paying to go.0 -
I didn't see it, definately wish I had though. In defense of the gym, it is great if you have the money for it. I love the gym because I have one that is a 30 second walk from my office and I go during lunch. Due to my long hours I don't often have time before or after and on cold, wet days like we had this weekend getting myself outside is a real struggle.
However, unless someone has a health related reason for being there (Like my dad after his heart surgery, in which case NHS will often assist) I don't believe the gym should ever take priority over current debts. The gym is a luxury many can ill afford. Once you've got all your ducks in a row, THEN the gym is a great thing to have. I have no debt so my surplus cash is mine. For those in debt, that money is already spoken for.Debt & Mortgage free...0 -
I recently bought an Orbitrek from ebay and would recommend it to anyone.
My husband and I both use it.
The best points about it are
1) You can use it whilst watching the TV and hence use otherwise "dead time".
2) You just throw on some clothes and in 2 minutes you are ready. No travelling to the gym.
3) You can throw off your T-shirt when you're too hot :-)
If you get a second hand one then the risk is small because if you don't use it you can sell it on for the same price.0
