I'll ask as i've never done the sort of job before.

How does every one account for petrol jobs where for example you need to put £10 of fuel into your vehicle but only get an £8 fee inc. Is it a £2 loss.

Sorry, i'm sure its obvious but for the life i cant think:o

"Stand back and hides in the corner"
No need to hide (we sometimes nibble but don’t often bite), short answer is yes.

(Depends on how close you are to the tax threshold) It could be viewed that the whole £10 is a legitimate expense. It was a condition of the job you had to buy fuel to assess the service at the pump and the service when paying.
Technically I think our resident tax guru will tell you that the £8 is payment in lieu and should be included in your profit and the £2 will go along with your other expenses, travel costs, printing etc so you will probably find you didn’t make much on that job at all. HTH
Couldn't think of anything witty to say so just keeping the space until I can :(

Ive had 3 bad months up till last couple of days. august was dire for me and only work i did was online surveys for edigital so they were such a godsend and my ultimate favourite company now. REACT have been good for me in as Im a newbie with them and got 4 jobs booked to do this weekend so I am really pleased with that - have you tried them? GR have sent me nothing and GFK are just as bad (looked through my records and my last work with them apart from a letter thing was august:eek:)

That's made me feel better, as the last work I had with GFK was also August. I had to release some jobs and thought perhaps they'd taken me off their list (though I can still log in).

While tax is being discussed, can someone clarify a few points for a newbie?

Mileage. How strict are HMRC on this? If I have two jobs in the same town can I claim the return trip twice or just the whole round trip?

Reimbursements. If I have to spend over £5, spend £5.10 and get reimbursed £5, what amount should I claim as purchases?

Fuel. As previously mentioned, I was including the cost of the fuel as a necessary purchase I was reimbursed for so that there was no tax due on my payment. A 'loss on paper' for the job that helps keep the tax down. Is this correct?

I think I could guess the correct answers but as it's going to make a difference money wise, can someone who knows confirm them?
    Thanks

I'm about to do my first shop for REACT but am confused as to the actual shop date. The papers say the due date is 6th December and that the earliest date is the 1st December. Does this mean that I have to actually do the shop on the 6th or by the 6th?

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.

Shop anytime between 1st-6th, but the report has to be written by the 6th.
