TBH the one in the woolies pic looks like it has a 4" 4:3 (old TV style square screen) screen, I would rather put £20 to it and get this one with a 7" 16 X 9 widescreen !! simply because most DVD's are recorded in widescreen and I hate having borders top and bottom

I considered the Coby 7" from EBuyer, but based on their customer service record opted for a 16 day trial with the 6.5" from Argos. Not only that, the Coby does not come with a case which will cost around a tenner so the total price being about £110.

I would imagine they will be clearing out the smaller screen versions of portable dvd players to make way for their larger screen counterparts. I would bet given another month or two the smaller screens 4" or so will be available for less than £50 as the 7" + have come right down in price during the last three months.

Venturer Portable DVD PVS166W 6.5" Screen
This player was recently on offer at Argos for £99.99 but has been put back up to £129.99.

I have just bought one for £99.99 so was lucky, however, I intend to return it under the 16 day returns policy as it is not exactly what I want.

So, if anyone is interested in it at the original price of £99.99 (plus postage) then you are more than welcome, it comes with the full warranty from Argos.

My review of it.
When I first opened it, I was very impressed, the screen was not noticable smaller than a 7" screen, it was light and compact (I have only ever seen one other portable though) and comes with all the leads, power adapter, case and even headphones. I have applied the region free code and tested it with original dvd's, DVD+/- disks (the + disks can jitter a little but my + disks are cheapos. The minus disks seem fine) it also plays MP3, and all sorts of other stuff.

My reason for returning this item is really down to the carry case design. When the player is in the case, the battery has to be removed. Not really a problem because the batter can be attached when the play is in the case but the battery is out side of the case (make sense?)

When the player is in the case it is secured by the mesh webbing that stops it falling out when mounted in a car with the supplied straps. The problem for me is that you cannot change the DVD without taking the player out of the case to open the DVD opening. Not a big problem but I wanted it for a 6 hour drive and wanted the kids to be able to easily change the disk without having to stop or them try and handle the actual player whilst the car is moving. A new case would probably solve all my issues but while I am within the 16 day returns I prefer to cut my losses and return it. Argos will resell it at £129.99 so this is why I am offering it up for the original price before sending it back. This is £99.99. Postage will probably be around a tenner (guess) to the UK.

IIRC on a previous thread someone said that argos gave you a refund for the price of the item on the day you return it, so they may refund £129.99 when you take it back.

i think if you have a reciept they will obviously refund you the money you paid for it, but if you dont have the reciept they will most probably give you gift vouchers for the amount it is on that day! i would think they will try and get round it though
