its a whole different ball game now.
I Have
GCSE i.T, A-LEVEL I.T , BTEC Networking , Foundation Degree , Hons degree , Cisco Networking CCNA
last year i was getting quite a lot of phonecalls for interviews etc etc before i had even left uni ... Luckly i got a job a month after i had left uni as a network Engineer. Times have changed in the Past year ... Even with my qualifications and no experience you would be even lucky to get a phonecall let alone a interview.
Stick to Bricklaying ... you will get paid more than a general IT technican or Call centre worker.. Plus you get to spend all day outside in the summer !0 -
As a recently redundant IT worker, I've found that employers look for experience, formal qualifications, certification, and recent skillset knowledge (like Java or C#). Either all those facets, or a combination of them. The amount of competition for posts is huge, and so employers are able to cherry pick from people with the most in all areas. It's also driving down salaries, as a glut of supply normally does.0

There are bricklayers and there are bricklayers. If he gets that experience and hones his skills to the level of craftsman and artisan then he will be quids in in years to come.0
