How do you protect a business idea?

For some time now, I have had a business idea rattling round in my head. It is not to do with an actual physical product. Sorry to sound mysterious but I am even worried about talking it through with a professional adviser. But I do need to get some advice as it could be HUGE or it could be nonsense. If it IS confirmed as feasible, then I will need some website and other advice.
Is there a way of protecting the idea before I launch it - or even before I talk to someone about it?

If it is for a protectable product, process or service go along to a professional business advisor and seek their initial views. Don't go to a generalist accountant or lawyer or you will be paying for their mistakes and education.
To give you comfort, ask about their professional indemnity insurance and if still not clear, get them to sign a NDA before discussing further. (If it is patentable, you are right to be circumspect because one way of failing to get a patent is that you have put the idea into the public domain.)0 -
