hi my oh went bankrupt last year if you own your house you could lose it if you are renting then it not that much of an issue you cant be company director of a company and some jobs you wont be able to do if you have done nothing crimal then you will be bankrupt for a year and after that it will stay on your credit file for 6 years it cost 460 to go bankrupt and the judge has to agree if you have a car you will proberly lose it if its worth more than 3 grand but if you need it for work they will give you money to buy a cheeper car if you have no works of art or any thing of real value they dont usally take things form your home im sure somone else will give you all the adivce you need soon on here but if not talk to cccs or payplan or cab as they will help you futher going bankrupt is not as easy as some think if you have surplus income they will make you pay a percentage of it for up to 3 years but its not as scarry as some think the judge and offical recvier are both fair and you are not made to feel bad in any way so long as its not your fault ie you went and took credit out with no intension of paying it back your name will be put in the local papers usally at the back my oh famley have no idea he is bankrupt and your name gose on the insolvent web site and in london gazzet( ithink if not the london gazzet it another london paper )if you come into any money you will have to inform the o/r but speak to someone from the above agenacy as they will help you futher hope this helps

I think earwig covered nearly everything, and amazingly in just one sentence.

Hey earwig don't worry about it, there's more to a person than their formal education and if people can't see that then sod them.

earwig, I apologise if I caused offense, it wasn't my intention. I was just trying to inject some humour whilst also saying that you had stated everything I was going to say. I was just jealous you got there first.

I think Earwig has covered most of the essentials -although as an update - it now has gone up £475 for most people. £325 if you are on benefit or a very low income. The other question is about a car if you have one -Earwig, you mentioned £3k, but I wonder whether that is partly due to local practice - in some Official Receivers oiffices I have heard that £1K for a car is "sufficient", but OR's do seem to vary..finally guys/gals -lets not fight - i think we are batting on the same side yeah? And all offering help for other people in the same situation...stay cool. By the way I am very impressed at how suppotive this site is about people in debt. We all have enough going on with debts etc..love and support to all who have the courage to be here and admit to problems with debt. xx

Does anybody know if IVA's are published in the local press ? I know they're a matter of public record.
