Which style did you buy? I've got the stripy ones (walkstar) and after a little while they were like slippers. I wear them all day every day. I've also got the Gough (winter boots) and I love them too. I've worn nothing but Fitflops for over a year. I have had a little trouble with the Freeway as they rub my little toes a bit. The 'harder' leather/plastic (I can't tell!) ones take a while to break in.
Including the 4 pairs I have just ordered I will own 9 pairs!! My favourite being a pink/purple pair from Taylors Shoes in USA (delivered to my sister in San Diego who brought them to me in her suitcase). I'd love some Mukluk boots but they will have to wait.

I bought 2 pairs, the bronze origional walkstars, these are the cuprits of the bleeding toes, and the black and white walkstars 111. I'm working at grand designs next week, I'm sure they always have a stand there. I think I am going to show them my cut to shred toes! It's not the bit that goes between your toe that really was the problem. It's the triangular piece that joins onto it that has done the damage to my second toe in on both feet.

I've always had good calf and thigh muscles... buried deep inside my fat legs!

I wear Fitflops for comfort. I haven't ever been able to wear a pair of shoes from getting up until going to bed before without hurting but I can these. They did take a while to get used to though. I'm not sure how long it will be before the Freeway feel the same though!

Yeah, I find this bit quite hard. I have no idea if it is plastic or leather. If it is leather then they might soften up but if they are plastic then I don't think they will.

Let us know what they say.

This is exactly what happened to me- only I had the originals- plain black, canvas straps. I was a bit confused at the rubbing/ripping at first as I normally live in toe-post birkenstocks in the summer and have never had any issues with them or as bad an issue with any flipflops either. But the FitFlops did do what looked like so much damage! It does heal though, and things can change!

What I did to get around it was buy invisable toe-post protectors from Scholl (sold in Sainasburys, Tescos and Boots I think) you stick them on the shoes and then used a plaster over my foot where the toe-post sits and rubs (you may need two plasters). After about two weeks (and no destroyed feet) my feet became used to them and I no longer needed to wear the plaster, some rubbing came back after about a week but then went nearly as soon as it came- think you sort of need to wean-yourself into them! Now I wear them almost every day with no problems! well worth the hassel!

If yours are made with leather (not sure on what they are made from) try rubbing some leather-softener on the edges if you think this is whats rubbing them, but personally, I think its the way they are designed- as the sole is softer, it means your toes (and calves) work harder, this results in more pressure being around your toes then your otherwise used to, and so rubbing (and in yours and my cases, ripping -I had literaly flaps of skin peeling off my toes- and alot of blood!).

Know the above idea sounds a bit long, but if you have bought them, worn them and cannot take them back, its maybe worth a try? it did work for me anyway!

Also, you could try bunging them in the washing machine (temp 30 degrees) as unless they are leather, they wash well.
