Cleaning Iron Soleplate - Stubborn Sticky Deposits

Options
My husband has been helping around the house! My two month old iron now looks as if it has seen better days and I suspect that I will come across some destroyed item of clothing soon!

The soleplate has a large grey/black sticky patch on it. I have tried a non-scratch scourer is desperation after trying an iron cleaner bought from John Lewis. Neither worked.

Does anyone have a solution?

I used to run the bottom of a white candle across it when it is hot. Works well in getting the black bits off but messy in terms of the wax drips. Also need to press the iron on white paper a couple of times to get all the wax off.

    Anyone got a better idea?

    THanks lswwong

That is actually what the iron cleaner from John Lewis reminded me of. Probably should have saved my £3 and tried a bog standard candle as it had no effect whatsoever.

Pink-winged I am going to have a look on those threads now. Many thanks.

Edit to say there are a couple of other ideas thee which I will try namely the salt trick and I also have some of the Lakeland Sticky stuff remover so will give that a go too.

Hmm, I am having iron issues too....

My iron seems to be making noises when it steams - a-la helecopter flying over head....... Or takiong off at least. It's like a loud growling sound, any ideas anyone?
It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice

It sounds like it might need descaling. If you fill the water compartment with white vinegar and leave it overnight that should do it.
