New flat garage roof?

Hi,

Does anyone know of any good suppilers/fitters for Flat Garage roofs in NI. I'm in Carrickfergus if that helps.

Thanks,

Richard.

If you don't intend to move why not invest in a pitched roof instead? Would be more expensive but wouldn't need replaced/treated every 10 years.
  • I can't recommend any personally but you may find this useful.
Depends if you want butyl rubber or felt but I'd imagine either is a fairly simple job for the average roofing firm or even a regular builder.
My father and I replaced a butyl rubber roof and the plywood underneath and we're are just keen diy-ers with a jeep, trailer, hammer, ladders, etc. The worst part of the job was taking off the old pebbles, washing them and replacing again. This was heavy work and a lot of hassle. With a felt roof you don't need pebbles (so the sun doesn't wreck the rubber I think) but you need the whole blowtorch carry-on etc.
The whole thing cost us about 500pounds for materials for a 24x15 garage (large single ) if that's any help. It took us one long day to strip and refit and another short day to wash and put the pebbles back up. We bought the rubber from Haire's in Coleraine but I'm sure there are others around Belfast etc. I think it has a 20 year life span.

I've since moved house and built a much larger double garage 27x24 and the pitched roof (trusses and redland tiles) cost almost 2500pounds including labour and VAT but it gives very useful storage space.

    Thansk for the replys...

I had thought about pitching the roof but I think it would look a bit odd becasue the garage is half joined to the house.

I was thinking of the butyl rubber stuff, 25 years (or so) would be fine and as you said probably a good bit cheaper than a pitched roof.

I guess I will just ring a few local people for quotes.

    Richard.
