Hi all,
I am just after a bit of advice really. I live in an end of terrace house which is a block of three and on the estate there are four such blocks in total. All the other eleven houses are band B and I am band C. There are no differences between the houses but some of the end terraces may have a bigger garden, mine included. Is it worth contacting the VOA or does the garden size affect the band?
Thanks in advance for your help

There's no harm in asking0

Garden size has little effect on band unless garden is extremely large. If your home had plot wide enough for vehicle access to side of house and other ETs didn't, that could explain highe band.
Only possible downside in contacting VOA would be to find your band correct and bands of other 7 ETs needed to be increased. It is more likely (but not guaranteed) that it is your band that is wrong. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
Hi Lincroft,
Thanks for your reply. I think I need to check out the other houses and research a bit more before I proceed0 -
Would the other 7 know that it was the OP who started things off if this happened?
I'd say it's certainly worth getting them to look at it. Generally speaking the worst that can happen is that your property is moved up a band. But from what you have said that sounds pretty much impossible.0 -
Jimmy, it wouldn't be that difficult for the other 7 to find out if they visited VOA website and looked up CT bands of all 8 houses as savers would stick out like a sore thumb as his Band C would have different effective date.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Hi I checked all the other end terraces and all bar one have the extra space at the side, enough for vehicle access. So am going to make a claim. Was hoping someone could advise me on the wording. Thank you0

"Dear Sir
COUNCIL TAX : (your address)
I believe my Council Tax band may be too high as the other 7 houses (give addresses) which are the same end terrace type as my home are in Band B whereas my home is in Band C.
I look forward to your early reply.
