High Rise Flat Morgages

Options
Hi..
I'm in the process of buying my council flat (under the 'right to buy' scheme) and was wondering if anyone could offer the names of some morgage lenders. Sounds a bit stupid but I'm having trouble getting hold of a lender because I'm on the 12th floor of a tower block. There must be some out there as I'm sure I'm not the first to buy a flat in a tower block. My other details: Fully employed, qualify for 'right to buy', cash deposit of over £15K. Many thanks for any help.

  • Sounds like a job for a broker - a local one may even have arranged mortgages in the same block. Your details seem good, so I'm sure someone will lend. I've just remortgaged with the Nationwide, who'll only consider blocks above 5 floors if the valuer reassures them on condition/resale potential etc of the block.

Bear in mind that if it's too hard to find a lender, you'll have difficulty selling on. Also consider the potential for massive service charges in council tower blocks - some councils seem to delight in passing huge bills on to their private owners.

    Good luck.
