Thanks for replys and suggestions.
In response to your questions:
Developer is Inspace/Wilmot Dixon. Been in property nearly 3yrs, I may have a go at trying to get compensation for electrics. It has proved difficult to show that cistern was due to bad workmanship and was informed that buildings insurance will only cover accidents not wear and tear. I'm also chasing up the leasehold management company for the finalised copy of the NHBC certificate as only got a cover note with completion papers.
Will consider shortening length of mortgage when get an increase in salary as to be honest I'm struggling to make these overpayments as it is so no need . Already living on credit card this month with 2 weeks to payday. I tend to run up £200/month and pay of this off each payday. I treat it as a running float to ensure I pay £499 as soon when wage hits the account. I've considered getting a second job but his job exhausts me as it is and need to chill at weekends.
Enjoy your weekend

Dear MFWs,
Survived this week without using the credit card (currently used £58). This was aided by a series of helpful events. Cooked up enough food on Sunday to feed me during the week. Received a £10 voucher in the post that I've used to buy a friend a Bday present from waterstones. I found £10 on the road. I had a free cappuchino treat from cafe nero. Had a work meeting on Tues and there were tons of fresh chopped veg (three types of peppers)and some cherry tomatoes left over from lunch. No-one touched this platter as it was too healthy. I took it all home and grilled it to put in a pasta sauce. This will provide three lunches.
I'm going to cook dinner for two friends, inc Bday girl, tmw night and have set a budget of £10-15. I have the cash. Gonna make a huge mushroom & ale-esque (no ale but sub with bit of balsamic/soya) pie with a warm, roast veg salad with feta cheese and pumpkin seeds. I also managed to get to the gymn 3x this week. Core ball stability Mon, Swim & Steam Tues and Yoga thurs. The gymn membership is therefore paying off:T.
I get paid next Fri and hope that March is an easier month. May have to cut down on overpayments as don't think I can continue to be so frugal. I'm hoping writing about it will keep me motivated. I am also beginning to consider ways of increasing my income. I'll provide an update, when I've researched what's feasible after reading more threads.
Have a good weekend :rotfl:

:eek:Hi Charlie H!
Firstly well done you have done well even with lots of stresses along the way, your story caught my eye for simple reason i will be 50 in April 2020 also, 40 this April and was anticipating that i would like my mortgage paid off by then too, mine is smaller at £33,000 and i am on the MFI-3 anyway good luck we may celebrate the double whammy together mortgage free in 2020 and 50 although unsure if would be celebrating the latter£14, 500 to go0 -
Hiya fellow MFWs
I've made the usual overpayment of £499 today and feel ready to take on the challenge of another 12 months of overpaying. My short-term goal is to have a balance of <135,000 in April 2012. If I overpay until Oct 2010 this will be achieved. Managed to get to the gymn twice this week and may try and go for a swim on Fri. The lunches are going well but need to cook tommorrow eve for fri lunch. I'm psyching myself to sort my gas and electricity out as I sense I'm overpaying. One obstacle is that I feel I need to stick with BG as my gas is supplied by independent gas company. I've read martin's info regarding all of this and that there may be some better deals and will start reading the appropriate threads.
Enjoy the rest of your week, Mad Men is due on

Hiya All,
Managed to make £499 overpayment for April. March turned out to be an horrendous month re: the car as have approx £800 of repairs to pay when pick up from garage on Friday. Will put on a credit card and worry about it early next month Throwing a house party for my 40th this weekend and intend not to think about £ and have a good time. It's about time I enjoy the flat as I'm investing so much £ in to it. The neighbours have all been apologised to in advance for the inconvenience re noise. Several of my friends are going to spin some vinyl, good old vinyl, for music spanning 70-00s!!!

Hi All,
Managed £499 overpayment for this month. Also sorting Gas and elecy at moment. Finally braved quidco for the 1st time to organise transfer to Nupower (currently with standard tariff for Gas with BG with IGT and elecy with EDF)-not sure what the hell happened when applied as have no idea whether it tracked. Cleared cookies/cache etc applied through link to nupower site and application has gone thorough but have no idea at all whether its tracked. So we'll see if I get any cash at some date. At least I tried.
Also been overpaying for my water bill apparently even though I queried my usage 12 months ago. Direct debit is £23 which is high for single occupancy. I have been notified that my account will be £53 in account in 12 months time. No further payments to be taken until further notice. RESULT. A little extra dosh at mo.
Next task is to try and sort phone/broadband.
Also just sorted a 0% Santander card (0% BT fee) --paid off Tesco credit card (0% up next month) with BT for £1500. £1300 sitting in savings cont to earn interest.
Also need to sort ISAs
Thanks for reading my update as it's so important to stay focused on one's MF journey

Hi All,
Managed overpayment of £499.99 (increase of 99p) for June and July. Have successfully had my temp contract (due to end July 2010) converted to permanent status. This is the first time I've held a permanent contract:j
Im still waiting for a promotion but this may not happen as I work for the NHS and we've been told our pay is due to be frozen in 2011. We are still entitled to increment increases but I've been top of my band for 2 years now and won't get it unless I'm promoted to the next band. This promotion was meant to happen before the election but good old HR beauracacy got in the way of that. We'll see. I'm grateful to at least have a job but I'll feel shafted if this doesn't get approved as I'm doing the job of the higher band.
I've had to run up a higher credit card debt through balance transfer from my Santander Card (now owe £2700) through a series of events. My cat, Charlie, fell from the balcony and was very very lucky to have not broken anything. i left him unsupervised for too long as I was cooking. I paid out about £350 in vet bills. I used to have insurance but Argos hiked it up from £4.50 to £18 as they started to base it on postcodes. I cancelled it as Charlie is an indoor cat. He's doing very well and I'm planning to cat proof the balcony before he goes out again. Car-had door fixed in prep for service/MOT. Fortunatley this only cost £105 through a friend's mechanic. I was quoted £300 by a local garage in March and couldn't afford it back then as had to have other work done to put back on road. Payed for flights for hols planned in Aug (£440), OH owes me her share though. Ground rent bill for 2009 and 2010 of £400 (ALL PAID pver 3months)
Still have't got my dough (£80) from Quidco, Gas and elecy have been transferred. Still owe BGas £170. This will have to wait as Car MOT/Service is due.
My next target is for mortgage balance to be 145000 which it'll be after next weeks payments.
I'm considering renting out my spare room but value my space too much. My cat may not adapt too well either as he's a nervous type. We'll see.
That's all.
Enjoy your weekend

good luck with your quest we have several similarities here....i have the nationwide 5.18% fixed for 5 years, my mortgage has now just reached £150k and im on a career break (sahm) from nhs!!
Sadly this impinges upon our ability to overpay but im still doing £63 a month rather than the £200 odd i mananged when i was working too. Never mind. The other thing is that i also would like to be mf by 50, currently on plan for around 52yrs old (but then have 4 kids whose education choices etc may derail this, ha ha!)
You sound focused so am sure you'll do it, i will drop by so to speak and use you as my inspiration for when im back in the workplace to kick my mortgage's butt:rotfl:Mortgage free 04/03/2025. Thanks to this site and lots of overpayments bit by bit.
Next stop: house repairs, holiday fund, replace our very old cars, more financial security/early retirement savings.🤞0
