Be very careful when you look at the re-mortgage though. Ensure that you have all the figures / t&c's explained properly to you as you wouldn't want to jump out of the pan into the fire, so to speak.

The same thing applies to redundancy cover. Ensure that you know exactly what is and is not covered before commencement of the policy (ie required length of service prior to qualifying for a claim etc).

If you do take professional advice from an advisor or broker, ensure he clearly states his fee / commission status prior to undertaking any work on your behalf. He / she should issue with an 'Initial Disclosure Document' which will clearly outline this for you. Also ask what experience they have and how long have they been advising on mortgages? Also what level they are qualified to.
