S.R.J Debt Recovery

Hi all,
I've searched on the forums and found a whole load of similar experiences with these people, but I'd just like to put my story up here for people to look at if that's ok. The details are a bit sketchy as it started a while back and I thought I had resolved it.
About 7 months I received a letter off SRJ informing me they were working on behalf of Natwest Trace and Collect for the Royal Bank of Scotland, that I had failed to "respond to correspondence" (this was the first I'd heard of it) and that legal action was in the offing. I phoned them to inform them that they were after the wrong person as the only dealings I've had with either of those was an RBS account set up for me by my secondary school. This account was never used by me and I cannot even remember it, but my mother assures me it happened. Neither of us can remember how old I was but it was circa 2000 when I was 13/14 or so we think. Apparently I used to receive bank statements off them which simply read nought each time as no money was ever put in or taken out by me. My mother used to open and shred these without second thought. These bank statements ceased to come a few years ago too. Back to the phonecall, and the person on the phone had down a different address for me, in London, whilst I live in Liverpool. He seemed baffled by this and requested, I think, a bank statement or utility bill and passport. He also told me it was a loan debt, and that was all I could get out of him. I (probably foolishly) sent a photocopy of my passport and something to do with a previous job which had my NI number on there. I also included details and contacts of my previous jobs, dentists, doctors, schools, the lot, to show them I had never lived at any London address. A week or so after sending this I received another similar threatening letter off them, and upon phoning them I was told that my letter to them wouldn't have been processed yet which I found baffling. When I finished this phone call, that was the last I heard off them. Thinking they were cheeky !!!!!! who just crawled back under their stone without acknowledging their mistake, I was happy enough to just have it behind me. This was concluded early April.
Then this morning at 8.30 I receive a call from Westfield, or Westpoint Credit, something similar. They want to know how I plan on paying this debt. I googled the number that rang (08709020568) and unsurprisingly it returns a few hits as spam and harrassment calls. I told the woman on the phone it was not me and that I thought I had resolved the issue long ago. She asked me to confirm my DOB and address (they had my correct address in Liverpool) and told me a letter was on its way and to file a police report if this debt is not mine. She also told me this loan was from 2005.
So whilst waiting for this letter to come I am wondering what to do. Going back to March/April when the SRJ nonsense came about, I went to Natwest to ask if I was somehow on their systems, and RBS to ask about this account with them I have never used. Neither could tell me anything and that if it was with a debt recovery agency, it was no longer anything to do with them. I thought I could at least get them to check their dabases for my name, DOB etc, but alas not. I've been thinking about going down to the banks again today but realise it's probably futile again.
Apologies for the length of this, but any advice is much appreciated. Is it just a usual attempt at worrying someone into paying them, or could it be some kind of fradulent activity with this RBS account that I suppose I still have, despite not having even had a letter or statement off them for years?
Any advice appreciated
CJ.

If you have no knowledge of this loan, i can only presume either identity theft, or someone with the same name has taken out a loan and so they found your name listed somewhere, or maybe someone lived at one of your previous addresses.
If you haven't signed any paperwork i don't see how it can be you. I would consider contacting whoever is the original creditor of this loan and try and get details from them, or inform them of fraud.
If they still persist to coming after you, try and send them a CCA letter. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1868507
Wait for advice from others on this forum too.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
Thanks for the reply. Just received the letter off Wescot asking for payment, I think I'll be using that letter you linked for me!
Cheers again.0
