Legal action on disputed account

Abbey and myself had agreed that my old account overraft would be suspended as the amount concerned (£2000.00) was equal to the amount being claimed by me through the courts in respect of unlawful overdraft cheque bouncing charges.
I have received an enforcement letter from someone called Moorcroft Debt recovery ltd threatening lagl action to recover disputed sums.
I understood this was illegal where sums involved were disputed and subject to court action. Any ideas on how to proceed
Thanks

the key phrase is We may take legal action.
Moorcroft are a DCA who may have purchased the debt from abbey for pennies in the pound. Basically Moorcroft will hassle you with phone calls and letters until theyget what they want - which is to make money ona debt they have purchased.
Whether Abbey should have sold this debt as it is in dispute I cannot tell you.
I would write to Moorcroft and advise that the debt is in dispute and also write to Abbey to see why they have sold this on when its in dispute. I doubt whether moorcroft will listen tho and guess they will bombard you with threatening letters and calls.
If they call refuse to answer security questions and do not speak to them over the phone. make sure all correspondence is in writing0 -
Try this letter http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11636233&postcount=7
Might need some minor adjustments.
Also there is this letter, which might be better

Finally there is a sentence in the letter stating about they shouldn't pass on the debt.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0
