Time to start afresh

Hi everyone,

Since we found out we were pregnant with our first child I have been promising myself that we would get our finances sorted, set ourselves a DFD and stick to it!! Our finances haven't exactly been stable for the past couple of years, and during pregnancy they haven't gotten any better as I was bullied and forced to go off sick.

Well....as today I am officially full term and could bring this child into the world anytime between now and the beginning of November (not very prompt these babies! lol) I wanted to share the good news that I feel quite safe now that we are ready to move forwards.

As you can see from my sig, the numbers are actaully getting smaller now! We are on our 2nd month of payments towards our newly founded payment structure. With any luck this will only be temporary until I go back to work but for the next 8 months, we're up and running. I won my bullying case and have been awarded all my pay backdated. This should arrive in the next 10 days or so in the form of a cheque for over £1000!!! That will certainly help us to pay for christmas, baby things and all the expenses that are sure to crop up like oil for centreal heating and the MOT for the car.

Our new DFD is July 1st 2012....a full year earlier than anticipated and I'm glad that I will be out of debt (as will my husband) before my 29th Birthday! :T

I wanted to thank all of the MSE-ers for their helpful hints, tips and challenges. While I am more of a lurker on here than I am active, if ever I have a question, I know I can get the answer on here.......and just to top it off, for my birthday last month hubby bought me a sewing machine! I will be amking clothes for the Little One and saving ourselves a bundle!! :T

Thanks again and sorry to brag but I'm pleased with my little self and with the fact that I feel that our family now has a stable-ish future!

  • Thanks everyone,

Nope we don't know what we're having, or when. It's all a big surprise and I feel like it's suddenly crept up on us lol. Hubby starts his 5 weeks of leave on Saturday so we're hoping that LO stays put until then....however they don't always play ball!

Thanks again and it just goes to show, even when life throws you a curve ball, it can still be sorted out! I just hope that, what with the expense of a new baby, we can stay on track. However, the distinct lack of a social life should compensate us financially! lol

Congratulations on the very soon to be arriving! And well done for getting things in control and having a course of action.

Have fun making clothes - thats lovely as well as being very MSE.

Have you been looking out for baby related freebies? There are usually quite a few around.
