    Instead of them ringing you why dont you ring them so you know you are def speaking to them. That might put your mind at rest. As far as identity theft goes I would say that the greater risk is not getting the help you need with your finances.

    That sounds like a good idea. I have caller ID on my phone and the number the ring from is unavailable.

    Thankyou everyone for your replies.. I've just found the snowball thingy and it's an absolute godsend.. everything just seems to have happened so fast. :(

    Dont be afraid. They are bonifide. They need the account number merely to start the ball rolling. There is not a great deal someone can do with an account number anyway. Let them have the details - believe me the earlier you do it the earlier the ball can start rolling.
