Bit worried...

Halifax contacted me today, (I have a credit card with them), and I told them I was with Payplan and they will contacting all my creditors shortly, and they said they won't offer an arrangement because I used my card last month, and they have to allow two months of no use to go into an arrangement?? I am slightly worried by that because I have used some of my cards within the last month, what does anyone think?

hello, sorry to hear your having probs, the usual form is when you are unable to continue with contracted payments or minimum amount required to keep account open you are advised to no longer use cards and destroy and return them, ive never heard that though ive got cards all over place payments through payplan whta they might of meant is they have a period of 2 months of nonpayment before theypass it over to there collection agency, or perhaps your given a 2 month non payment before your account goes to default
any concerns give payplan a ring
    hope this helps
    klare x

I had this reaction from Adams storecard. I'm managing my own DMP, and I just wrote to them to say that although they've turned down my offer, that I would carry on paying the suggested amount.

By the time they'd got round to contacting me again, they agreed to the arrangement. I'd had late charges and interest in the meantime, but I wasn't paying out anymore that I could afford.

BTW - they had the cheek to ask me why I'd used the card if I was in financial difficulty. My little girl needed clothes!

    Its not really a cheek.

If you cant pay it back, then you shouldn't have spent on it, regardless of who needed clothes.

I am not being heartless - I have been there (And still am), but you in effect are borrowing money from them that you cannot pay back. I can't blame them for being cheesed off!

We had this problem with Marbles - I spent £5.99 (just £5.99!) in error on Amazon (should have used the debit card) and was the only spend within a month. 3 months later we contacted them and they refused to deal with us as we had spent on the card within 6 months - these went on for 8 more months! Adding massive amounts of interest, late fees and over limit charges. For £5.99.

Not impressed, but I had spent on the card.

Thanks for pointing this out Charlotte. I perhaps should have made this clear - it was before my lightbulb moment and whilst I was burying my head in the sand about the debt!

I see what you mean, I have just used one of my cards for £180 cos our boiler broke, it was an emergency but what am I supposed to do! Plus I was using whatever card had credit on so I could live, as I was paying out nearly all my wage on minimum payments. I have now learnt my lesson, and I have no credit on my cards now anyway.

You'll get there soon! Sometimes, needs must. You needed your boiler repaired and my baby needed winter clothes. You're at that tough time, when you don't have any money or credit - but you will get through it.

Payplan will talk you through and help you.

It's good that you've made the call and are getting some help.

    Hang in there!
