Miscalculated Interest Free Payments! Advice please

Hi,

I recently puchased a TV and some furniture from a department store. I took all of this on a 2 year interest free option and paid a 20% deposit on all of the items. They printed up the usual contracts and I (as usual) merrily signed my life away with out taking much notice. 2 Months down the line they have contacted me saying that although they took the deposit for all the items, they had left off the remaining balance for the furniture and would now like me to sign an amended agreement to double my monthly payments. On checking the original finance contract I can see that they have listed all of the items but entered the wrong amount for the outstanding balance. Where do I stand legally with this? Can they force me to sign an amended contract? Do I have to pay the full amount or can I get away with just paying what I had agreed to?

You were happy with the price of the items, pay it.
  • Up to you on this - sign the amended paperwork and pay what you should have paid and be debt free in 2 years (or ask them to take the goods back and completely cancel the agreement) or pay half what you are supposed to and in 2 years you will owe half and be charged a lot of interest on the outstanding balance.
