Just a word of Thanks....

I have spoken with a lovely lady from the National Debt helpline, and she has given me all the assurances and advice similar to what I have been getting her.

So thanks to you all so much for pointing me in the right directions!

I am stopping the CC payments and opening a basic account, and will start writing my letters and then see what happens. I think once the divorce stuff comes through and the ex is going to pursue costs I will probably have no choice other than to go BR, and I know it will be a scary time, but I now know that as well I my wonderful family and friends I also have such a great support and advice network on this site.

I am frightened of all the letters and calls (although as advised her and by the lady from the National Debtline) I must not take the calls and only deal in letter form, I think I can get through it.

Also I think I might be able to have a payment holiday from the mortgage so ever little helps and I can save some money up in case I need it to go BR.

So after a horrible couple of days I can see a little light somewhere near the end of the tunnel and I am def feeling more Sunny today.

  • The hardest bit is at the beginning, keep psoting on here and asking questions, these fantastic people will get you through it. They will help you every step of the way.Just take a deep breath, keep calm about the paperwork involved, I freaked out regularly even when my husband went br 10 weeks after me my mind was still boggled, but he is now discharged, I have 9 more weeks or so. I am glad we took the br route, it has made me a stronger person. Well done.

Once you realise that they cannot do anything to you without going to court first (which the judge usually sides with the debtor anyway and will be a long time away) and that the letters and calls are just a scare tactic it gets a lot easier.

These forums have been a life saver for me in my situation and and I don't know how I would have got this far without them.

Just keep posting questions it will help you and others.

    Good Luck.

  • In hindsight the paperwork was not that bad, I think the hardest part was working out all my creditors, embarrassingly there was a lot more than I thought. I started preparing myself before i went br so that once it had happened I had everything ready to give to the official receiver, I hand delivered the files. I had two with creditors (catalogues and credit cards) paperwork, all the last 12 months statments in alphabetical and date order and then the other file was bank overdrafts and loans. I then with my husbands put his hp agreements at the front of his file. I just wanted the OR to know that I was helping as much as I could. I remember when I handed it all over I said thank you to him for helping me.I have had nobody from the insolvency team, courts or other departments treat us horrible. They have been wonderful.

I think i will need to get very orgainised over the next couple of months.

Losing the house is a scary prospect but we will just see how that goes (you never know the ex might see some sense and not pursue me for costs..??).

My ex is getting debtors chasing him ALL the time and he seems to just ignore them and he still seems to sleep well!!

I am a different person to that and I do worry about money, it's just my nature, but I am so glad to be able to come in here ask questions or even just let off a bit of steam, it is nice to know you are not alone and to hear about what others are going through and how they cope.

well done on taking that first step, just keep doing it one step at a time.

Most people on here have worried themselves sick about it all before eventually sorting things out and many like you are still in the process, so you are certainly not alone.

I think it was Phil on here who said 'the light at the end of the tunnel isn't always a train' ;) (sorry if it was someone else and I've misquoted). Good luck and stay strong X

Hi Sunny. The very hardest part for me was right at the beginning at the time where I felt I really had no where to turn, the absolute panic, worry and despair of not knowing what was going to happen because we couldn't pay what we owed. That very place where you have been in the last few days is the absolute hardest. Once you start the process and know and accept that bankruptcy is going to happen you can somewhat relax. What i mean by that is the sheer worry goes, the creditors can ask you for x amount of money, they can hound or be nasty but you know you're going through a process which will have the law on your side.. therefore relax a little. The paperwork really isn't too bad, I think you'd be surprised but it can be a little time consuming finding all the info required.

I'm so pleased you can be a little bit more positive today :)
