Home made window cleaner?

New here, apologies if I've posted in the wrong place.

I'm looking to scrap expensive home cleaners and make my own. Now I know this could be seen as being in the 'green' board but i'm not looking to increase my green credentials (although I know it's important) but I want to do it for the health of my kiddies, to fit nice and neat into my new role as housewife and Mam and save my pennies. Thought I belong here.:D

I would like to know how to make my own cleaners. Any recipes on how to make household cleaning soluteion would be very much appreciated.

I'd really like to know how to clean my windows with a home made solution for starters.

Thank you, Miche

To clean your windows you don't need anything other than scrunched up newspaper..

I use a wet a cloth with some washing up liquid, then wipe it all off with newspaper. You honestly dont need more than that. I use the freebie paper, store it up instead of putting in the recycling box.

We always cleaned them with vinegar and newspaper when I was a child
  • I make up a solution of water, a squirt of washing up liquid and a splash of distilled vinegar in an old spray bottle, then spray and wipe off with kitchen paper. (okay the kitchen roll isn't the grrenest or most moneysaving thing but i find newspaper or cloths smear and leave marks on my windows)

Newspaper shouldnt smear, streaks are an indication that there is still dirt on the windows, so I would wash it again and wipe with newspaper.

I use distilled white vinegar, with a drop of aromatherapy oil (makes the house smell lovely) if you have no oils use a squirt of lemon juices. I use this on mirrors & the shower glass also, put on with cloth & wipe with old newpapers.

I know this isn't a window one, but I'm in the process of changing to HM products also, to cut out expense, I'm just out of polish so I will be going back to olive oil & lemon juice to polish with.

When I'm out of kitchen cleaner I'll be using vinegar & tea tree oil.

Good luck OP with your HM products

Oh brilliant, thanks everyone. I'll call at the shop for a newspaper on the school walk. Not money saving but have no newspaper! Can't wait to try it out. I think I have found a new haunt on MSE! Thanks again

Do you pass a paper recycling bank on the school run? They are often outside village halls/schools etc, and sometimes you find people have left bags of papers on the floor if the bank is full.

Or .. One third Stardrops, one third white vinegar and one third water in an old sprayer bottle. Use very sparingly. Lasts for ages.
