we had the lamb last night for roast dinner - did 3 of us and enough left for tonights tea. I slow cooked it with red wine, mushrooms and shallots and it just fell apart, very good quality lamb;) 2 great quality cheap meals for £3.31:D

Got two lamb shoulders (and a beef roast). Very good deal!

Out of interest nikinackyloo, did you slow cook these in the oven or a slow cooker? I have read that lamb smells funny if done in a slow cooker. Not sure which method to use. I have never bought a lamb shoulder before.

Check the dates on these deals - my daughter bought in a rush and has most of her things in date only until today, which I think is a bit cheeky.

I usually cook in the oven but last sunday did the lamb in the slow cooker ( absolutely fine) as we were going out for the day - either way I just slam in the lamb ( sorry couldnt resist) and leave for 5 hours, by the time I take it out it is just falling apart :p. Mrs Annie - you can just throw it in a casserole dish with a lid and leave it ( I used to do this before I could cook!) and then just serve with gravy and veg. I now love it done with a bit of red wine and the shallots, I then remove the meat and thicken the juices from the casserole dish to make the sauce ( stick in a bit of mint sauce with the juices too, its lovely!)

My meat that I got on wed is dated until 13th october ( next mon) so quite a long date I thought ( might just have been lucky though;))

Maybe it was my comment you read over on the OS board about lamb smelling weird as it cooked in a slow cooker. Rest assured, it's just while it cooks, smells (normal) tasty and tastes great once it's finished cooking!
Hope I didn't put you off slow cooking lamb, as the meat just falls off the bone when done this way (yum!).

    It's only a game

  • I picked up 2 chickens valued at nearly a fiver each and a lamb shoulder joint for £4.95.
I'm very pleased with these and will get some more when I stock freezer up with meat next week.
Very good value and good quality.
