Job Centre woes

  • Like others have said, whilst she won't be entitled to the £64.30pw due to your income, she is entitled to sign on to get her NI credits paid but that is it. I recommedn she phones DWP again, explain what happened at the JC, and ask for another appointment to go back and sort out the signing on.

I'm in the same boat, but decided it wasn't worth the aggro of signing on, but luckily will be starting work soon anyway so it won't matter

As far as the bank is concerned, even though she can have the NI credits, the letter she will get from DWP will state she is not entitled to JSA so not sure whether that will help with the bank or not, especially if they need to have a regular amount paid into the account each week/month in order to qualify to open the account?

But you are a couple. Couples share things. Like beds, houses, incomes.

A 22K income for a couple is more than enough to live on if a proper budget is in place.

Sounds like true love if you won't support your gf during her unemployment?!

I am personally glad the government prevent people from claiming who live in a household with a decent income.

All you need to do is claim you're not living together, I know people who do this and I hate them for it.

She can go in, explain the situation and ask to be put on it for NI credits only, which they can do if you can't get any money. She can also ask them if she would be entitled to do any training courses with them, or whether she could do any in the evenings or during the day as a P/T course at college to make sure her skills stay fresh whilst she's looking for work near you. (may also help get her a P/T job which could be a useful stopgap and give her some income before getting a F/T job)

She should also ask to have it backdated as she was misdirected by a member of staff, there should be no problem as long as she was actively seeking work during the backdated period as its credits only.

Its definitely worthwhile doing, not only for pension purposes but in certain cases NI credits from DWP can assist in future entitlement to JSA based on NI contributions.
