Creditors ingnoring letters

Hi

While sorting myself out, I sent letters off at the end of August to all my creditors explaining my situation and offering token payments for three months. I made the first of these token payments through on-line banking on 29 August.

Not heard anything from them at all regarding token payments But I've received letters stating that I've not contacted them and asking me to phone them which I'm not going to do. Sent off letters again on Monday to them all, with a copy of the letter sent in August and my SOA.

Going to make the token payments again tomorrow.

I've not sent the letters yet stating that I only want them to contact me by letter as I've changed my home phone number as my mum was getting very distressed by the aggresive phone calls from the call centres in India. However, a couple of them are now phoning me a work, so I'll send of that letter tomorrow.

Sorry about the ramble above but does anyone have any suggestions on what to do if the creditors still keep ignoring the letters I've been sending. The letters are sent recorded delivery and I've checked on line and they letters have been signed for.

  • Hi,

I've had a very similar situation to this, I gave in and phoned to see if I could sort it out and got nowhere. So I contacted CCCS instead and they are now helping me deal with it all. I'd really recommend you get in touch with them (sorry, don't have link to hand), at the very least they can reassure you on what your creditors can and cannot do.

    Hi,

I have to say that many creditors will ignore your letters and token payments. It does take a while for things to settle down - have you sent your letters recorded delivery?

Unfortunatly this is quite a common tactic. I have complianed to the financial ombudsman about Halifax who did this to me. It does get sorted eventualy if you persist. You have the proof the letters have been recieved and you have proof that you are making payments. They will not take legal action against you as they would be laughed out of court if they did.

As for the phone calls. When they call repeat that you have written to them and that they should not contact you on this number do not engage in any other conversation. Keep a record of the calls and if they persist then complain to the office of fair trading. They do eventualy give up when they realise there tactic isn't working on you.

I have had this too, in particular frederickson international have just been ignoring me and calling me and sending standard letters out to me instead of replying...
  • Thanks for your comments and advice, I was beginning to think I'd done something really stupid.

The letters were all sent recorded delivery, thought that was the safest especially with the postal strikes.

Do you have to go through CCCS or Payplan? Barclays have replied today saying that the are refusing to stop interest or accept my token payment and the I've got to give them my CCCS number and date of interview. I never mentioned CCCS in my letter, I only stated that I was seeking advice which I have done - your good selves. I did do the on-line bit on CCCs website.

    I'll just keep going.

    Thanks
