It was Geoffy who stated every time money was printed it lead to run away inflation not Hamish.

Hamish is stating it had not lead to runaway inflation in Japan.

QE will not lead to inflation if it is filling a debt hole. It is over printing that would, but if they did that they can remove money also.

    Exactly right.

QE has not led to runaway inflation in every country that has tried it, as per geoffs assertion.

Japan used QE, and did not suffer from hyperinflation.

Geoff is talking out of his ar5e again, as usual.

  • tbf Japan used it at a time when it was suffering from those problems in isolation and was therefore able to export its inflation (isn't this basically how the carry trade really got going?)

It needed inflation why export it? No one as explained how or why Japan would want to export it's inflation when it was suffering terrible deflation for 10 years +.

I think the idea of exporting inflation does not stack up as they needed inflation, so why make things worse for yourself?

Japan suffered deflation because they had a massive asset bubble collapse, high debt levels(100 year mortgages etc). If they had the means to export inflation why did they not cause inflation instead and stop their problem of deflation?

You can get into all sorts of debates about what Japan may or may not have done post QE, and the similarities or otherwise of their situation and ours.

But the fact remains that Japan did use QE, and did not suffer from hyperinflation as a result.

Therefore it has been proved that not all cases of QE lead to hyperinflation, which was geoffs erroneous assertion.

Another stupid thread started by the OP

Using a story highlighting the risk of NOT resolving the £180 Billion shortfall, to try and start another 'kneejerk' thread bleating about impending doom and disaster from the (hyper)inflation that is not about to occur !!!

It might help if you tried reading and understanding the story, before jumping to your usual conclusions.

Every time printing money has been used around the World to plug a huge gap in the supply of credit caused by an huge asset deflation, it has NOT resulted in runaway Inflation !!!!

Quite the opposite in fact. According to a recent article in the Torygraph, deflation is apparently getting worse in Japan. The Yen has appreciated massively (40%+ IIRC) against sterling over the last year.

Hamish I'm glad to see you actually learnt something at HousePriceCrash before they kicked you out for being a rude troll

on HPC.co.uk i've learnt that house prices will drop 70%, we will have hyper inflation in a few years and that all bearish posters have a standard issue 75% deposit to buy a property when the 'alleged crash' will happen.

what i find really strange is that those 'clever people' on that site now come over to this forum to follow Hamish. they're not trolls of course
