I have today recieved my gredit report from Expirian
1) There is an unsettled default from Barclays Bank for £82 which I settled ages ago  We cleared the account to a £0 balance but Barclays charged £30 because we weren't using the account the charges kept going on. We spoke to them about it and they advised it was their fault, settled the account and then we closed it. How can I get rid of this defult ???
2) Our loan company offered us a higher loan in January and we said we would look in to it. We never done anything else about this but there are over 30 credit searches on my report from the loan company for the same thing  How long will it take for these to come off and should I complain to the loan company ???
My report actually looks ok - apart from the 2 things above there are 3 settled defults - 2 of which are due to come off in September but I am still finding it hard to get credit - any ideas
Thanks for reading this long post.

If Barclays have admitted their error with the account and have removed the charges and closed it then write complaining that the error that they have made has left negative footprints on your credit file. And ask them to remove them.
Re: the loan company, creditors have a responsibility to ensure that whenever they do do a search of your file that the information is factual and correct. If you have not applied for 30 loans from this loan company then they have been careless and inappropriate in leaving 30 footprints/searches on your file. They are more than aware the affect that searches can have on your file and should know better.
Write to them and give them a verbal kick up the dairy air!
Until the defaults are gone in September you will find it hard to get credit. As these show that you did not keep to your contractual agreement.MFWB

I agree with $17mma - they should remove any incorrect info but until then. if you go onto Experian's website (you can sign up for a free trial I think) you can add notes onto your credit file, not sure how but you can put something on saying that the information is incorrect and you are currently in the process of having it removed? Was debt free... then went travelling!0

Thanks lazy&indebt i forgot to mention the free sign ups ( two minds are greater than one;) )
Yes the free sign up is for 30 days as long as you cancel before the 30th day then you dont have to pay for it. The same goes for Equifax and it would be a good idea to sign up for both as they both will have different info on them as different creditors use different agencies.

Speak to someone at Barclays to get them to write (to you ) and confirm the situation with regards this account (it is really important to get and keep paperwork as proof for your own records) Once done get Experian to contact Barclays so they can get details amended.
Unfortunately, $77mma is right and you will still find it really difficult to get credit until ALL defaults have gone from your file (settled or not) My advice is do not keep trying and my gut feeling is that a loan company that leave 30 footprints on your credit file should be avoided. Don't forget to check your credit report held with Equifax to ensure their info is correct too.0
